Professor Dave Stone is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He was appointed into the Electrical Machines and Drives (EMD) research group in 1989, and is heavily involved in EV/HEV research, together with energy conversion. He has led battery testing and management for over 15 years, being principal investigator on industrially oriented projects (e.g INMOVE (EU funded), Rholab (DTI funded), ISOLAB42 (DTI funded)), together with more academic work funded by the EPSRC, and Innovate UK funded work on recycling and reuse of batteries on the grid, and Li-ion battery pack management. The battery work, coupled to power electronics, have resulted in over 250 papers.
Professor Martin Foster was appointed to the research group in 2003, and has an interest in design and optimisation of power electronics converters and energy storage and management having published over 120 publications in the field. Currently he works on energy storage, and energy usage within buildings, and is involved with a number of EPSRC, Innovate UK and directly industrially funded projects. Between 1999 and 2000, Dr Foster worked for EP&IC Systems Ltd developing microcontroller-based data acquisition systems, instrumentation and batching controllers for the manufacturing industry.
Professor Dan Gladwin has particular expertise in energy storage and management, power electronics, and intelligent systems. He is a named investigator on more than £8.5M of funding from EPSRC, H2020 and Innovate UK in the last 5 years. He manages the work on electrochemical energy storage for grid scale storage and is co-investigator for the £3.8M 1MWh / 2MW lithium titanate facility at Willenhall. He is also co-investigator on the £1.5M TransEnergy project (EP/N022289/1). He has published over 50 papers in the areas of battery modelling and state estimation, optimisation, energy storage and power systems. He is currently leading a H2020 project to install Europe’s largest hybrid flywheel battery energy storage system.

Following a highly successful and full career with the MoD, and through his own business: PJKA Consulting, Peter has worked in the University of Sheffield supporting different elements of Electronic and Electrical Engineering activity since early 2015. With a background in control systems engineering and strong leadership and management credentials, Peter is a key part of the CREESA team and integral to our growth strategy. He has a broad repertoire of skills, and is involved in many aspects of our work including business development, client engagement, branding and marketing and all elements of the bid writing process. He has been instrumental in establishing some of our key industry partner collaborations and his drive, commitment and enthusiasm show no bounds. Peter is an Incorporated Engineer and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
